magnificent eagles
Appreciate NATURAL WILDLIFE ON the lake
Every year, hundreds of American Bald Eagles visit Lake Coeur d’Alene on their annual migration. They come to us from Canada and Alaska as they seek milder climate for the winter. Once here, they like to congregate at the lake’s northern end to feed on lake-bound salmon. Their primary meal is the Kokanee salmon, a landlocked sockeye that thrives in the lake and its tributaries. As they spawn and reach the end of their life cycle, they become an ideal food for the Eagles during this time of year.
For an up-close and personal look, take one of the Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruise Boats to Wolf Lodge Bay. It’s an awe-inspiring sight to see these magnificent birds in the wild from the comfort of a cruise boat.
