Bald eagle in a tree in winter time

Are you looking for things to do in Coeur d’Alene with you family this winter? Don’t coop up inside with tv and movies. Consider taking everyone on a Bald Eagle Cruise with CDA Cruises instead. Not only does this outing offer beautiful views of the lake but it also gives your family a glimpse into nature’s most beautiful bird – the bald eagle.

For more information on this incredible cruise option, keep reading below!

The details

Every year, hundreds of bald eagles flock to the north end of Lake Coeur d’Alene. They come to us from farther north, in Canada and Alaska, as they seek milder temps for the winter ahead. Once here, they make their home in the trees above the water and they spend their days hunting the spawning Kokanee Salmon in the lake. Salmon is one of their favorite meals!

All Eagle Watching Tours will begin at the resort, where you’ll board the boat with friends, family, and other guests approximately 30 minutes before sail time. Don’t forget your coats and gloves, it’s going to be chilly!

Then you’ll make your way over water, around Tubbs Hill, out towards Wolf Lodge Bay on the northeast side of the lake. Keep your eyes open, the eagles like to swoop down on the water and throughout the trees! We recommend that you bring binoculars for this cruise because they’ll help you see more detail. You can also bring your cameras so you can try and catch a few photos/videos of these majestic birds in action!

Want to know more? Pricing and dates for the Eagle Watching Tours depend on which one you choose. Currently, CDA Cruises offers two Eagle Cruise options – value cruises and deluxe cruises.  The details for these two cruise options can be found here, including dates and pricing information based on age.

Pacific Northwest, North Idaho,& Bald Eagles

One of the most exciting things about winter in the Pacific Northwest is the arrival of the eagles on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Year after year, bald eagles from Canada and Alaska congregate at the north end of the scenic north Idaho lake to feed on lake-bound salmon. Many people do not get the chance to see bald eagles in their natural habitat, let alone a large number of them up close and personal.

However, at Lake Coeur d’Alene, eagle watching has become a popular winter activity. There are several tour companies that offer eagle-watching excursions, and many people choose to take advantage of this unique opportunity. After all, what could be more exciting than spending a day in the great outdoors, surrounded by some of nature’s most magnificent creatures?
